Inside the Studio

Here is a look inside the design studio of Judy Clark, Scottish designer and Shape What’s To Come Traveling Journal contributor. Here is some of the inspiration she uses to combine the luxurious, handwoven Harris Tweed with hand-dyed Nepali silks to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind clothing.

Social Change: Sarah Elizabeth Ippel

Sarah Elizabeth Ippel is the Founder and Executive Director of the Academy for Global Citizenship- a public school on the underserved Southwest side of Chicago where students are empowered to become active world citizens. AGC engages the whole child in an enriching educational community, focused on fostering academic excellence, international awareness and environmental stewardship.

The students at AGC are taught to take care of the Earth as well as their bodies. Only organic food is served, vegetables are grown in the schoolyard and yoga is held every morning to start the day. The students were even involved in a project to design a renewable energy generating playground as the school plans to raise funds to build a net positive energy facility.

Not only are the children receiving an exceptional education, but the Academy for Global Citizenship is inspiring the way society educates our future by creating replicable model for incorporating health, nutrition and environmental sustainability in all of our nation’s schools.

“One day we will become the leaders of the country too and teach kids to be the best they can be like we learned at the Academy for Global Citizenship.”

-AGC Student

Art & Media: Elaine Murphy

Elaine Murphy’s advice to aspiring writers:

“Just write! That simple. Even if you think you have a “block” and nothing good is coming.  If what you’re writing is rubbish and diary-like. At least you are still writing.”

Elaine wrote her first play, Little Gems, while working part time at Planned Parenthood. Her play has received international acclaim Visit her SWTC Traveling Journal here and this week’s posts about her here.
